Born on August 10, 1954, in the picturesque Dessaiwada, Canacona, Bandekar’s journey began with humble origins. He pursued his education diligently, graduating with an Electrical diploma. His multilingual prowess extended to English, Hindi, Marathi, Konkani, Greek, and Arabic, reflecting his zeal for knowledge and communication.
Bandekar ventured into the world of business and Electrical Consultancy Service, establishing himself as a respected professional in his field. However, his true calling lay in public service and politics.
In November 1989, Bandekar was elected as a Member of the First Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa. His early years in politics were marked by active participation in various legislative committees, setting the stage for a remarkable political career.
The zenith of his political career came when he was appointed as a Cabinet Minister in February 1991. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in shaping policies and governance in Goa, leaving an indelible imprint on the state’s development.
Following a brief hiatus, Bandekar re-entered the political arena, getting elected as a Member of the Second Legislative Assembly of Goa from December 1994 to February 1999. His experience and dedication continued to influence the state’s political landscape.

Beyond politics and his various interests, Bandekar embraced a global perspective. He traveled extensively to Gulf Countries, Greece, Ethiopia, and Cameroon, broadening his horizons and gaining international exposure.
In his personal life, Bandekar remained rooted in Dessaiwada, Agonda, Canacona-Goa, where he lived with his wife Savita and their children, including son Gauresh and daughters Gouri and Gouravi.
On May 24, 2012, Shri Sanjay Vimal Bandekar passed away at Apollo Hospital, Margao, following a brain hemorrhage on March 8. He was 59 years old. His funeral rites took place at the Agonda, marking the end of an era in Goa’s political landscape.
